Squalane

Squalane is a stable, saturated form of squalene, an oil naturally produced by human sebaceous glands. Our skin produces squalene to keep itself moisturized, but production peaks in our teens and declines steadily with age. Topically applied squalane replenishes this lipid, providing lightweight hydration without greasiness.

Squalane can be derived from shark liver (traditional source), olives, or sugarcane. Most modern skincare uses plant-derived squalane for sustainability and ethical reasons.
