Camellia Oil

Camellia oil, also known as tsubaki oil, is extracted from the seeds of the camellia japonica flower. It has been used in Japan for over a thousand years for hair and skin care. Geishas used it to remove makeup, condition their hair, and protect their skin. Camellia oil is prized for its lightweight texture, excellent absorption, and nourishing fatty acid profile.

Camellia oil is rich in oleic acid (omega-9), which closely matches the fatty acid composition of human sebum. This makes it exceptionally compatible with skin and non-comedogenic despite being an oil. It also contains vitamins A, B, D, and E, plus antioxidants like squalene and polyphenols. It provides emollient moisturization without greasiness.

Japanese brands like Oshima Tsubaki, DHC, and Shu Uemura feature camellia oil in facial oils, cleansing oils, and hair treatments. It is considered a luxury oil in Japan with a long cultural heritage. The oil is cold-pressed to preserve its beneficial compounds and has a mild, pleasant scent.
