Decorté Guide: Japan's Prestige Beauty Powerhouse

Decorté (formerly Cosme Decorte) is KOSE Corporation’s prestige beauty brand. It occupies a similar tier to Shiseido’s high end line or Clé de Peau, sold at department store counters in Japan and increasingly available internationally. The brand got a massive visibility boost when Shohei Ohtani became a brand ambassador, which introduced it to an audience that had never heard of it.

What makes Decorté worth paying attention to is that several of its products don’t just compete at the prestige level. They dominate. The Liposome cream, the Loose Powder, and The Skin Foundation are all ranked number one in their categories in Japan, and the awards shelf is deep.

The Key Products

Liposome Advanced Repair Cream

This is Decorté’s flagship product and a genuine phenomenon in Japan. Won @cosme Best Face Cream in 2025 and has accumulated a collection of beauty awards that’s hard to ignore. The technology behind it is multi layer liposomes (microscopic capsules that release active ingredients gradually into the skin throughout the night).

The result, according to the consistently enthusiastic reviews, is plumper, firmer, more hydrated skin by morning. Rich texture that absorbs faster than you’d expect. Popular even among people who are skeptical of luxury skincare claims because the overnight difference is reportedly noticeable.

The Liposome line also includes the Liposome Advanced Repair Serum, Japan’s top selling serum, which uses the same multilayer liposome technology in a lightweight format designed to go before toner. Decorté Loose Powder

Considered the best loose powder in Japan by many makeup artists and beauty editors. Creates a soft focus, blurred finish that makes skin look naturally luminous. The texture is exceptionally fine. A tiny amount goes a long way, so despite the prestige price, a jar lasts a very long time.

The Skin Liquid Foundation

Ranked as Japan’s number one foundation. The selling point is that it looks like skin, not makeup. Sheer to medium coverage that builds without getting cakey. An impressive shade range for a Japanese brand, which is notable because Japanese beauty brands historically have limited shade offerings. A department store counter favorite where beauty advisors help match shades.

Comfort Day Mist

A fine facial mist for hydrating and setting makeup throughout the day. Won ELLE’s Future of Beauty award. The spray is ultra fine and doesn’t disturb makeup underneath. Has a pleasant citrus herbal scent. More of a nice to have than an essential, but it’s the kind of product that’s satisfying to use.

Where to Buy Decorté Outside Japan

Decorté has a US website (decortecosmetics.com) and is available at select department stores and retailers. The US distribution has expanded in recent years, partly driven by the Ohtani partnership raising brand awareness.

FAQ

Is Decorté worth the prestige price?

The Liposome cream and Loose Powder are the two products most people consider worth the investment. Both have earned their reputation through performance rather than marketing. The foundation is excellent but more subjective since foundation is personal. Whether prestige skincare is “worth it” compared to effective drugstore options is always a personal call.

Is Decorté the same as Cosme Decorte?

Same brand. “Cosme Decorte” is the older name that still appears on some products. The brand has been gradually shortening to just “Decorté” in recent years.

How does Decorté compare to SK-II or Clé de Peau?

All three are Japanese prestige skincare brands, but they have different identities. SK-II is built around Pitera (fermented yeast). Clé de Peau focuses on skin cell science. Decorté’s signature is liposome technology. They compete at the same price tier but with different formulation philosophies.
